One of the best places in the world to fish, Alaska is one of the few pure stretches of wilderness left on the planet. Wildlife is plentiful, and the bodies of water large. A huge diversity of fish species can be found in Alaska, and it has become extremely famous for its prime salmon fishing grounds. Many fishing enthusiasts head off to Alaska at every opportunity to be a part of salmon fishing groups that are the prize catch of many anglers. For this very purpose, Alaska also abounds with tourist packages for fishing aficionados, overnight accommodations, and the very famous Alaska fishing lodges that are quite well-known among fishing circles. Some of these lodges are rented out for weeks at a time as fishing buffs make their way upstream to where the salmon migrate to their nesting grounds each season.

There are a good number of fishing lodges in this area, and many of them advertise on the Internet. Bookings are made months, and sometimes even a year in advanced, depending on the popularity of a particular spot. Fishing buffs even reserve some lodges each year to ensure that they have accommodations each time they travel to Alaska to take part in their favorite activity during the salmon season.

The Best Spots To Fish

Among the many popular Alaskan fishing lodges are the lodges found on Lake Creek. These lodges are located 70 miles from the northwest of Anchorage, and offer its guests all manner of relaxing activities apart from the main activity of salmon fishing. These Alaska salmon fishing lodges even provide basic courses in fly-fishing as well as world class fishing, and have many professional fishing guides among their staff to assist their guests.

One of the other draws of these lodges are gourmet meals in five courses, luxurious hotel amenities and accommodations, all at competitive prices. These lodges help fishing buffs to reach and overshoot their target for game, as well. Located in south-central Alaska, guests will find that they offer the best spin fishing and fly fishing in the region. Fishing enthusiasts will find themselves after the best choices of salmon, from King salmon, Silver salmon, Pink salmon, Chum salmon, and Sockeye salmon. In this area, rainbow trout are also fair game.

More fishing lodges can be found around 40 miles from King Salmon, Alaska, which is also a famous region for world class fishing. Among the many sights are the Katmai National Park that is home to five of the most sought-after salmon species, including rainbow trout, grayling and arctic char. Most of the fishing grounds are mere walking distances from the lodge, and many fishing buffs are often found doing their thing before and after breakfast, and even after dinner. In fact, in places like these, anglers can spend 20 hours a day doing nothing but fishing and nobody would think anything unusual of it.

Many fishing lodges within this area cover 34 miles of river, and many anglers are often found jostling for spaces in between spots where landing places are often 20 miles apart. There are fishing lodges in Alaska that can accommodate as many as 20 guests, with each cabin housing two to four people each.

Quietness And Serenity

Other Alaska fishing lodges often have amenities like wood saunas, DVD’s and satellite phones, apart from the usual dining and recreational areas. Most of them are accessible only by boat, and many people find the quiet and serenity of these places to be one of the most relaxing spots in the world. These wild and beautiful landscapes are home to some of the most sought-after fly fishing in the world. There are often no roads or airports within miles, and most of the lodges are within the river mouths themselves.

Most of these Alaska fly fishing lodges can be reached by floatplanes, and are very near to the watersheds of Iliamna and Bristol Bay, where a great variety of fish are found. This is particularly true of the Norton Sound river just by the Bering Sea, whose waters churn with Pink salmon, King salmon, Chum salmon, and Silver salmon. Arctic char is also plentiful from the pure ocean just beyond. In most cases, a huge quantity of salmon (nearly 30 to 40) can be lured and landed during the summer months of June up to August. This is peak fishing season in Alaska. To preserve the wildlife, most of the lodges often have rules of catch-and-release as soon as the fishing limits are reached.
